The aim of the research is to facilitate dialogue around the contextualisation of the group relations training model in South Africa in order to assist South Africans to negotiate transformation in this country. The first section of this paper explains the theory of group relations and group relations conferences. This discussion is based on psychoanalytic and group dynamic principles derived from Bion and Klein, and as practised by the Institute for the study of Leadership and Authority in South Africa (ISLA), the Department of Industrial Psychology at UNISA and DCT Consulting.
