Trois points de vue sur la négation mā dans le dialecte arabe de Mauritanie

Three Ways of Understanding the Negation mā in the Arabic Dialect of Mauritania From the point of view of morpho-syntax the central problem is the fonctioning of the pronoun that is attached to the negation. The respective usages of mā and mā + Pron. correspond to the distinction between sentences with a verbal predicate and those with a non-verbal or to the distinction between sentences with the « verbal order » and those with a « non-verbal order ». The later distinction being, as David Cohen pointed it out, congruent with that used by Arab grammarians between the so called nominal and verbal order. From the semantical-referential point of view the question is that of what focus is associated to the negation. One may distinguish between cases where the scope is implicitly determined (indefinites being present in existence-sentences, or exceptives, modals, ...) and other cases when the scopes remains indetermined, this could cast light of the status of the complex negation mā ... ši, in the Maghrebi dialects, where the conditions of appearence have a tendency to be congruent with the scope-based contrast. Finally the three parts deals with some usages of mā, expressing the personal implication of the speaker in his speech. Beside the important part played by prosody in the definition of the thema and the rhema, the present article proves that the ḥassāniyya dialect shows, in this enunciative prospect, efficient syntactic structures, partly specific (viz, mā ... mā « ... not, without ... » ; siamese sister sentences).D'un point de vue morpho-syntaxique, le problème central est celui du fonctionnement du pronom affixé à la négation. La répartition des emplois respectifs de mā et mā + Pron. correspond souvent à la distinction entre énoncés à prédicat verbal vs non verbal. Cependant elle peut correspondre aussi à la distinction entre énoncé à « ordre verbal » vs « ordre non verbal » — distinction qui, comme David Cohen l'a montré, correspond à la distinction des grammairiens arabes entre phrases nominale vs verbale. D'un point de vue sémantico-référentiel, le problème est celui du foyer à associer à la négation. Une opposition apparaît entre les cas où la portée est implicitement déterminée (présence d'indéfinis dans les énoncés existentiels, de forclusifs, de modaux, ...) et ceux où elle reste indéterminée. Cette distinction pourrait éclairer le statut de la négation complexe mā ... ši dans les dialectes maghrébins car les conditions d'apparition du second élément tendent à recouper cette même opposition. Enfin, dans la troisième partie, sont étudiés divers emplois de la particule mā qui expriment une prise de position de l'énonciateur par rapport à l'énoncé. Outre le rôle important que joue l'intonation dans la définition du thème et du rhème, il est montré que le dialecte présente dans ce domaine des structures syntaxiques efficaces et partiellement spécifiques (c'est notamment le cas de mā ... mā « ne .... pas ... sans que ... » introduisant des phrases siamoises)
