Nursing students are expected to support women after a stillbirth, while they themselves experience difficulties to deal with the emotional impact of a stillbirth. The objective of this article is to explore and describe nursing students’ experiences of caring for women with stillbirths at public hospitals in South Africa. A qualitative approach was used to conduct a descriptive, explorative and contextual study. The population consisted of all nursing students registered for the Diploma in Nursing allocated to the obstetric sections of five public hospitals in Gauteng Province, South Africa.
