Income, educational status and divorse proneness among career women in Osun state, Nigeria

The study assessed the relationship between personal income and divorce proneness among career women in Osun-State. It also assessed the influence of educational status on divorce proneness among career women in the State. The study population consisted of career women in Osun State. The multi-stage sampling procedure was used to select the sample. In the first stage, one Local Government Area (LGA) was selected from each of the three senatorial districts using random sampling technique. In the second stage, three cities; Ede, Osogbo and Ile-Ife were purposively selected from each of the LGAs based on the fact that each has a higher number of educational institutions, a high concentration of commercial bank branches and at least one tertiary health institution. In the final stage, the non-random convenient sampling technique was used to select 150 respondents from each of the cities. The research instrument consisting of three standardised psychological scales was administered on a final sample of 450 respondents. Data collected were analysed using One-way ANOVA and Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The result showed that there was a a significant positive relationship between personal income and divorce proneness (r = 0.19, p<0.05) but educational status did not significantly influence divorce proneness (F=1.36, p>0.05). The study concluded that personal income is a determinant of divorce proneness among career women in Osun State.Keywords: Divorce Proneness, Income, educational status, Career women
