In this paper the preparation of chitosan nanoparticles was carried out using methacrylic acid (MAA) and studied by both ultraviolet (UV)- visible transmission spectrophotometry and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Nanoparticles with sizes as small as 17 to 25 nm were achieved. The obtained nanoparticles had a homogeneous morphology showing a quite uniform particles size distribution with a spherical shape. The solution was pH-sensitive, due to swelling and aggregation of the nanoparticles. The use of slow release fertilizer has become a new trend to save fertilizer consumption and to reduce environmental pollution.
