The National Heritage Resources Act In this article the National Heritage Resources Act is discussed. It is also shortly compared to the former National Monuments Act. Attention is given to the way in which the new act addresses the problems experienced in the execution of the former National Monuments Act. The new act makes provision for the safeguarding of the cultural heritage by means of a formal and a general protection clause. The way in which the act correlates with international conventions for the conservation of cultural resources, is also discussed. It is concluded that cultural historians should be actively involved in community heritage projects in order to keep up scientific research standards. This method of operation is als...
