Side weirs are flow diversion or intake devices that are widely used in irrigation and drainage networks and urban sewage systems. Labyrinth weirs have a proven hydraulic advantage due to their increased discharge rate at the same head for a given design condition. A labyrinth weir is defined as a weir crest that is not straight in plan-form. The increased sill length provided by labyrinth weirs effectively reduces upstream head to the particular discharge.
