Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common mental health disorder diagnosed in children with prevalence ranging from 3-11%. The prevalence of ADHD is rising without an proportionate increase in mental health providers. Therefore, patient’s access to mental health is decreasing. As a result, many primary care providers are taking on the responsibility of prescribing medications for ADHD. Research has demonstrated that behavioral interventions in conjunction with stimulant medication is the most effective strategy in managing ADHD symptoms and other related difficulties for children with ADHD, including aggressiveness, a strained parent-child relationship, and poor social skills.
