The amount of fungal propagules in the atmosphere is a microbiological indicator of the degree of environmental contamination. It also serves as warning to allergy sufferers. In view of the lack of knowledge on the airborne microbiota in Barreiras city, Bahia state, Brazil, we aimed to investigate the occurrence of filamentous airborne fungi in the region and its relationship with local abiotic factors.
