I was introduced to the Fajouriyeh manuscript in 2014 during my research into photography of African slavery in Qajar-era Iran. My main interest in that period was the detailed information that the author provides regarding his sexual relationships with, or in a better definition, his sexual aggression towards and harassment of, ten female African slaves of his own household, and those of other aristocratic families and court members. I was astonished to read how, in an open and cruel manner, he spoke to the king of Iran, Naser al-Din Shah, about the details of his sexual affairs with those poor innocent souls.
