Cicerone panegirista. Punti di (dis)somiglianza tra la «Post reditum in senatu» e la «Pro Marcello»

This paper examines similarities and differences between Cicero’s speeches Post reditum in senatu and Pro Marcello. In spite of formal similarities of context (senatorial oratory), genre and style (epideictic) and themes (thanksgiving and praise for the restitutio and practice of beneficium), these two speeches are characterized by deep dissimilarities due to the different historical and political background in which they were delivered. In particular, the analysis focuses on the epideictic aspects and strategies of the two orations and examines the development of praise in the period of the late Republic. Moreover, it highlights how themes and reasonings of the post reditum rhetoric are variously developed in Caesarian speeches.Il contributo indaga punti di contatto e di distanza tra la Post reditum in senatu e la Pro Marcello di Cicerone. Nonostante le affinità formali di contesto (oratoria senatoria), genere e stile (epidittico) e temi (ringraziamento ed elogio per la restitutio e prassi del beneficium), queste due orazioni sono attraversate da differenze profonde, riconducibili al diverso periodo storico-politico in cui furono pronunciate. In particolare, l’analisi si sofferma sugli aspetti e sulle strategie epidittiche dei due discorsi ed esamina lo sviluppo dell'elogio nel periodo della tarda repubblica; inoltre, evidenzia come temi e argomentazioni della retorica post reditum siano variamente riproposti nelle orazioni cesariane
