Metabolic syndrome is the clustering of multiple symptoms that directly increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It is estimated that one quarter of the world’s adult population has metabolic syndrome and rates of obesity have doubled in 70 countries between 1980 and 2015.
