The parameter of the reduced specific surface (S0) is used to characteristic a degree of development of the respirative surface of fish gills. It is revealed, that the specific surface of gills decreases and parameter S0 grows with growth of weight of a body of fish. Pelagic fish have more bigger parameter S0 than bottom fish.
