The author uses the films of David Cronenberg as a basis to study the relation between cinematographic strategies of fright and horror. The first are often based on an opposition between the on- and off-camera, while the latter seem to rely on the shot/reverse-shot technique. In this sense, The Brood (1979) provides an interesting shift from fright to horror. The author aims at understanding the term “body horror” which has been associated with Cronenberg's films from the start.
