In this study, the fabrication and characterization of chitin nanofiber (ChNF)-based nanocomposites containing biodegradable polymers including thermoplastic starch, gelatin, and poly(vinyl alcohol) were carried out. Field-emission scanning electron microscope micrographs showed that mixing ChNF with polymers generated more homogeneous and integrated surfaces compared to that of pure ChNF film. X-ray diffraction curves demonstrated that the crystalline properties of the nanocomposites were mainly affected by the ChNF content. All nanocomposite films were more permeable to water vapor compared to the pure ChNF film.
