Background: Despite the importance of physical activity to physical and psychological health in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), levels of physical activity in COPD patients are significantly lower than age matched healthy individuals. Pulmonary rehabilitation, a structured physical activity intervention, is one of the essential treatments for COPD, and results in benefits such as improved exercise capacity, symptoms, and quality of life.
