International audienceConsidering the phenomenon of conversion in the light of the social sciences allows a more precise understanding of the sociological factors that may been at the root of the conversions of the Protestants between 1685 and 1787. The archives of the community of the New Catholics of Rouen constitute a substantial corpus for such an analysis for Normandy as a whole. Marginalisation, both familial and social, arising from kidnapping or abandonment, as well as a strategy of isolation : these were factors in the conversion of those Protestants who were enclosed in the convent for a long time.
