The Megillat Ester (Scroll of Esther) is a 141 cm long parchment, bearing the traditional Hebrew text from the biblical Book of Esther, framed by artistic color renderings of the story’s protagonists, locations and events.The Scroll of Esther from the Bavarian town of Fürth was written by an unknown scribe around the year 1750 and belonged to the local Jewish community. It is not known, when and how the scroll was brought to New York.The Book of Esther is publicly read in synagogues around the world during the Jewish festival of Purim (on a full moon in February or March) and has been copied traditionally on scrolls of paper, parchment, linen or other materials.
