Fair Trade (FT) is defined by its main actors as a trading partnership that seeks greater equity in international trade. It also aims at contributing to sustainable development and to fight against poverty by offering better trading conditions to producers in developing countries (a “fair” price, advance credit, longer term trade relationships, etc.); as well as technical assistance to producers' organizations. As such, FT is viewed as a development tool by several governments. Therefore, it is fundamental to assess the capacity of FT to be an efficient development tool.
