Dream and power in the colonial mayan religion

Se discuten las relaciones entre el sueño y el poder, con base en el análisis filológico de un fragmento del “Libro de los Enigmas”, uno de los capítulos del Libro de Chilam Balam de Chumayel. El testimonio, datado en el siglo XVIII, permite entender que para el pensamiento religioso maya colonial los sueños son parte del proceso de adquisición de conocimiento y autoridad.The paper discusses the relationships between dreams and power, based on the philological analysis of a fragment of “An Incantation”, a chapter from the Book of Chilam Balam of Chumayel. The testimony, dated on the 18th century, allows us to understand that for colonial Mayan religious thought dreams are part of the process of acquiring knowledge and authority
