National audienceThe issue of human resources management of workers over 50 is quite acute. Many studies address it in a normative and fragmented manner. Instead, this article analyzes actual practices articulating different action levels. It is grounded on several case studies and surveys performed in chemistry and construction sectors (known for the harshness of their working conditions). In chemistry, the aging workforce is a "problem" to solve. Actors include the issue of aging in the implementation of many firms social schemes. In the construction sector, the proportion of older workers is lower, because many employees quit. For the remaining workers, age is taken more into account through careers informal arrangements.
