Objective: The objective of this study is to identify the effect of red betel (Piper crocatum Ruiz and Pav.) leaves ethanolic extract on hepatoprotective effect on CCl4-induced liver damage in rats.Methods: Standard phytochemical screening method was done for preliminary phytochemical screening. Hepatotoxic rats were induced with CCl4 and treated with ethanolic extract of red betel leaves. The hepatoprotective test was divided into two groups (curative and preventive test). In the curative test, the rats which have been induced with CCl4 were given ethanol extract 600 mg/kg bw each day for 15 days.
