The political and social dimensions of the German question in Bulgaria at the end of the Second World War : between an institutional and social history

L’avancée progressive de l’Armée rouge dans les territoires de l’Europe de l’Est entre juillet 1944 et mai 1945 déclencha une série de transformations politiques dans les pays libérés du fascisme qui ont connu, à tour de rôle, le bouleversement d’un ancien ordre. Ce climat transitoire produisit des actions d’épuration politique locales et souleva la question du traitement de la population civile allemande, présente sur place. Cibles des politiques d’expulsion et d’utilisation de main-d’œuvre, des Allemands nationaux résidant en dehors du Reich (Auslandsdeutschen), des Allemands ethniques (Volksdeutschen), des membres des familles mixtes et leurs descendants se virent dans la nécessité de négocier leurs appartenances ethniques et nationales avec l’État afin de se protéger. Cette thèse s’efforce d’articuler les formes que prit la résolution de la question allemande, ayant émergé dans l’un des pays libérés par l’Armée rouge, à savoir en Bulgarie. L’objet de notre recherche chemine à travers des dialogues tout à la fois entre les États et entre l’État et l’individu, révélant des interstices entre normes et pratiquesThe progressive advance of the Red Army in the territories of Eastern Europe, between July 1944 and May 1945, triggered a series of political transformations in the countries freed from fascism spurring the upheaval of an old order. This transitory climate produced local purification actions and gave rise to the question of treating the German civil population, present there. Targets of policies of expulsion and forced labor, Germans residing outside the Reich (Auslandsdeutschen), ethnic Germans (Volksdeutschen), members of mixed families and their descend were forced to negotiate their ethnic and national affiliations with the state. This thesis attempts to articulate the forms of the resolution of the German question in Bulgaria, one of the countries liberated by the Red Army. The object of our research shapes through dialogues both between states and between the State and the individual, revealing interstices between norms and practices
