The town, built on the delta of the Lez plain, was surrounded by water since its foundation during the 6th century B.C. giving it the appearance of a lagoon peninsula, framed by two active branches of the river. The geo-morphological context of this plain could nevertheless suggest an installation in other areas, apparently equally attractive and exempt of the alluvial risks.
