Objective: to evaluate the impact of restricting duty hours on anaesthesia and intensive care residents’ quality of life, quality of education and quality of care. Method: an electronic article search was conducted in the medical literature in three databases: Medline, Embase and Cochrane. The inclusion criteria were a population of residents rotating in anaesthesia, resuscitation or emergency medicine with duties including nights. The studies had to evaluate the impact of restricting duty hours on the quality of life of the residents, and/or the residents’ education and/or the quality of care.
