The items in this collection consist of synagogue music scores from Southwestern Germany, both cantor's manuals and choral music.The cantor's manuals are in at least two different hands and reflect two different time periods from the late 19th century onwards. The older materials contain more traditional music notations of the oral tradition. Of considerable importance are the transcriptions of local and regional traditions, especially melodies from Alsace, Salzburg and Diersburg. Three small manuals bear the name of Simon Metzger, cantor in Grossbockenheim. The more recent manuals were possibly connected with Karlsruhe, as there are two items with the same of S.
