Fred Strauss Family Collection 1892-1966 Bulk dates: 1939-1966

Fred Strauss was the son of Milian Strauss (1893-1964), a textile businessman in Frankfurt am Main during the 1930s. This collection consists of the personal papers of the Strauss and Neu families. The bulk of the collection is correspondence written from 1938-1941 and restitution papers from the 1960s. Other materials include personal identification papers, vital records, and emigration papers.See inventory.Fred Ludwig Strauss was born in Lengfeld im Odenwald, Germany to the businessman Milian Strauss (1893-1964) and his wife Jenny née Neu (1896-1985). Milian Strauss was co-owner of a textile business called GeWeBe Handelsgesellschaft für Woll- und Baumwollgewebe in Frankfurt am Main. Jenny Strauss' brother, Hugo Neu, immigrated to the United States in 1930, and he filed the affidavit of support for Jenny, Milian, and their two sons to come to the United States as well. They left Frankfurt am Main in 1939. Milian's mother Fina was deported to Theresienstadt in 1942 and died there.
