The collection contains numerous personal papers, manuscripts and correspondence with explorers and geographers. The personal papers follow Philippson’s career as professor in Bonn and in Halle.Born in Bonn on January 1, 1864, Alfred Philippson received his doctorate in geography at Leipzig in 1886, his habilitation in Bonn in 1891 and taught at the Universities of Halle, Bern, and Bonn.
