Fred Grubel's family history and short memoirs, ending in 1918.Fred Grubel was born in Leipzig in 1908. He studied law in Freiburg and Leipzig and completed his dissertation in 1930. Before completing the bar exam he was dismissed from the law profession and became the director of the Jewish community in Leipzig. In 1938, he immigrated with his wife Lisa and their son Henry to England. Two years later, the family settled in the United States, where he worked as an accountant for the Joint Distribution Committee. At the end of the war, he traveled through Europe monitoring assistance for displaced persons. He later worked as an accountant at serveral hospitals, before joining the Leo Baeck Institute in 1966.
