She had four siblings, Eugen, Rudya, Eva, and Angela. She graduated from the medical school of the University of Freiburg, Germany in 1930, completed her residency in Heidelberg, and after receiving her degree of Doctor of Medicine, practiced in the Psychiatric Department of the Buerger Hospital in Stuttgart. Emigrating to Vienna in December 1933, she studied and practiced psychoanalysis there until emigrating to United States in 1938. She worked in Chicago until 1948 when she moved to New York City. She died in 1988.Kurt Robert Eissler, Ruth's husband, born 1909, was a pyschoanalyst and founder and director of the Sigmund Freud Archives. He died 1999 in New York City.Jenny Selke née Lewin was born May 17, 1877 in Warsaw. She married Ludwig Selke, a banker, born on November 9, 1874.
