Military service in World War I; university studies in Munich; medical career at the Charité Hospital in Berlin; persecutions after 1933; immigraton and life in USA.Ernst Bergmann was born in Nuremberg in 1896. He was a physician at the Charité Hospital in Berlin and taught medicine at Berlin university. In Nazi Germany he managed a private hospital. He immigrated to the USA in 1938 where he joined the faculty of New York University
