Born in Oscarsham, Sweden, on April 9, 1876, Bernhard Kahn was a lawyer, general secretary of the Hilfsverein der deutschen Juden, 1904-1921, European director of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, 1921-1939, and director of the American Joint Reconstruction Foundation, 1924-1939. He emigrated to Great Britain in 1934, to the United States in 1937, and died in New York City on April 27, 1955
