The water service in Tunisia has been managed for more than forty years by a public company. A social policy, based on a progressive charging system and a national cross-subsidization had accompanied the service development throughout this period. The sector shows currently good performances with access of the entire urban population and about 92% of the rural population to safe water drinking according to 2007 data. It enters thus in a new phase of development. The aim to increase the supply capacity has been replaced by the target to improve the quality of the service : lowering the upper limit of the supplied water salinity, linking scattered rural populations with individual connections...
