Archeology and the assiduous work of the Centre d'Etude des Peintures murales Romaines (CEPMR) now make it possible to consider a paper on the theme of the place of figurative scenes in Gallo-Roman wall-painting. We propose here a synchronic study of the corpus by first looking at the works in their architectural context: was there an appropriate setting for the themes shown in the decorated sites? Then, we narrow the scope of the analysis by considering the place of the scene depicted, not only within the building but within the wall itself.
