When you analyse an economic cluster there are a number of factors to consider. First, the historical background which very often reveals deep-seated roots. Relationships and social links then develop from these roots. Next, within the notion of territorial space, relational networks are formed which are more or less organised and more or less formal. It is thus that people concerned by these relational networks have developed their own social capital in a climate of confidence and exchange, in order to benefit from the advantages they procure. The labelling of certain clusters as regional zones of competition (pole de compétitivité) attracted my attention as a subject for a future thesis.
