La niche artistique des Afro-brésiliens à Paris : un opérateur de reconnaissance sociale

International audienceThe condition of the black population in France is diverse. In Paris, Afro-Brazilians share a unique position within the broader black population. This article deals with the life experiences of black and brown Brazilians, socio-racial relations and the strategies of integration and socialization of this particular population in the French context. This contribution draws from our fieldwork and attempts to understand the relational processes through which transnational and ethno-racial identity boundaries are constructed. The ethno-artistic work market in Paris is the focal point by which the experiences of this group of immigrants is negotiated and articulated within French society. The dynamics of inclusion/exclusion raised by Afro-Brazilian artists has now become a part of the hierarchic competition of national identification whereby Brazilian culture has become the instrumental ground for prestige and legitimacy.La condition noire en France est diversifiée. A Paris, les Afro-Brésiliens occupent une place singulière vis-à-vis d'autres populations noires. Cet article s'intéresse aux trajectoires de vie des immigrants brésiliens noirs et métis, aux rapports socio-raciaux ainsi que les stratégies d'intégration et de sociabilité mises en place par cette population dans le contexte français. Cette contribution s'appuie sur une recherche de terrain et tente de comprendre les processus relationnels découlant des constructions de frontières identitaires transnationales et ethno-raciales. Le marché du travail ethno-artistique à Paris est alors le fil conducteur à partir duquel l'expérience de cette immigration est négociée et articulée au sein de la société française. La dynamique d'inclusion et d'exclusion mise en œuvre par les artistes afro-brésiliens est alors prise dans le jeu hiérarchique des identifications nationales d'où la culture brésilienne ressort comme socle instrumental de prestige et de légitimité
