Camel milk, cow milk : production, qualities and uses among the Tubu (Chad, Niger) The Tubu are pastoralists who herd their flocks over one fourth of the Sahara desert and its sahelian fringes, north of Lake Chad. They drink the milk of their animals, and sell a few of them to buy millet, tea and sugar. Camel milk, cow milk and goat milk are used differently, but most importantly they are not available at the same times of year. Breeding these three types of animals thus helps shorten times of scarcity. Goat milk is often neglected, except for feeding an orphan or babies.
