International audienceThis paper wants to understand how much the Latin Oedipus is original in respect of the sophoclean tragic hero. We look the place and the function of his noun, and the way by which he is designed, then his physic features which make him so exceptional. We are aware of how Latin tragedy is focused on the character's inner conflict, of which passions are a powerful dramatic motor. These principal psychological features, that is fear and guilt, but also a great determination to understand the origin of his problems, draw the distinction of this protagonist right away overwhelmed by misfortune.Cette contribution vise à comprendre quelle est la part d'originalité de l'Œdipe latin par rapport au héros tragique sophocléen. On examine la place et la fonction de son nom, ainsi que la façon dont il est désigné, puis ses caractéristiques physiques, qui en font un personnage hors du commun. On mesure combien la tragédie latine est focalisée sur le drame intérieur du personnage, dont les passions sont un puissant moteur dramatique. Ces traits psychologiques dominants, la peur et la culpabilité, mais aussi la farouche détermination à comprendre l'origine de ses maux, dessinent le caractère exceptionnel de ce protagoniste d'emblée plongé dans le malheur
