International audienceAt the end of the 20th century a programme of field work was carried out concerning the beginning and the development of the stoneware industry in southern Normandy. It permitted the identification of several medieval production sites. At la Picaudière kilns were discovered close to clay pits from which the earliest Normandy stone wares were made in the late thirteenth century.The excavation of a longitudinal pottery kiln produced three successive kiln floors. Dating by archaeomagnetic analysis (second half of the 13th century) confirms the chronology provided by the ceramic forms and by the written sources.
