International audienceFrom the semantics of museum inventories to dialoguing museums: The CIDOC CRM model. Each museum is in charge of creating metadata sets describing the collections they hold. The structures of such information may contain local particularities, aiming at meeting specific needs. But the current movement that tends to lead us from a 'Web of Documents' to a 'Web of Data' on which structured data sets would be linked to each other, rather than just stored in independent repositories as they are today, calls for a formalization of the concepts that underlie the various ways museum information can be structured.
