Gray cast iron is one of the most popular cast metals used in the metal casting industry. Gray cast iron is often added with other elements to make its characteristics fit the needs, this process is called inoculation. Inoculation is carried out at the time of casting, when the cast iron is in a liquid state. This study aims to examine the characteristics of gray cast iron due to the effect of Si 3% on the casting process. This study uses three testing methods, namely hardness testing, microstructure, and SEM-EDS testing with the casting process using metal molds and sand molds.
