Hubungan Antara Indeks Massa Tubuh dengan Tekanan Darah Tinggi pada Lansia di Dusun Citran Kecamatan Kartasura Kabupaten Sukoharjo

Background: High blood pressure or hypertension is a degenerative disease that arises due to the transition that occurs in the elderly due to organ weakness and physical deterioration that affects the quality of life of the elderly. One of the contributing factors of high blood pressure is overweight or obesity caused by lack of physical activity and fat build up in the elderly. Overweight or obese can be seen from the Body Mass Index (BMI), the more you have an excess BMI, the higher the risk of developing high blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship of body mass index with high blood pressure in the elderly. Methods: This study uses observational analytical methods with a cross sectional approach. Sampling using purposive sampling and getting 32 elderly people who have high blood pressure. Data collection using measurements of blood pressure, weight, height, and BMI calculation and then written on the questionnaire sheet containing the results of the measurements that have been done. Results: The results of the study were analyzed using spearman correlation test obtained a p value of 0.984 with the provision of p > 0.05 which means there is no relationship between body mass index and high blood pressure in the elderly in citran subdistrict kartasura sukoharjo district. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that there is no link between body mass index and high blood pressure in the elderly in citran subdistrict of kartasura sukoharjo district. Because most of the elderly in Citran hamlet have a normal BMI rather than a fat BMI
