Background Maternal postpartum depression (PPD) has been shown to have long lasting effects in children’s development. Studies have described the impact of PPD in children’s cognition, especially negative effects in intelligence quotient (IQ). However, a recent examination of the current studies to discern the patterns and strength of the associations between PPD and child IQ is not available. Objective The purpose of this systematic review is to discern the effects of PPD, within the first twelve months of the postpartum period, on the IQ of the child aged 0-18 years old.
