International audienceBreaking with the two analytical frameworks commonly used to account for party positions on European integration in postcommunist countries (i.e. cleavage theories and typologies of Euroscepticism), this paper analyses the Europeanisation of political competition in Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic since 1989 by looking at the uses of European issues by politicians. European integration was a major resource to shape the lines of division that structured political fields along three dimensions: the selection of the actors qualified to take part in political games, competitions between legitimate actors and intra-party rivalries.
