Sleep stage scoring based on the aperiodic component of electroencephalographic signals

Miego stadijų klasifikavo procesas yra sudėtingas ir reikalaujantis didelių laiko sąnaudų procesas, todėl galimybė jį automatizuoti yra labai aktuali. Šio darbo tikslas – ištirti aperiodinio EEG komponento spektrinio nuolydžio savybių pritaikomumą kuriant automatinius bei dalinai automatinius miego stadijų klasifikatorius panaudojant mašininio mokymo algoritmus. Šiame darbe išanalizuota literatūra apie miego stadijų aptikimus, pritaikyti Velčo langų, Gausinio skirstinio ir Lorenco funkcijos algoritmai EEG signalų aperiodinio komponento spektrinių nuolydžių apskaičiavimui. Apskaičiuoti EEG signalų parametrai panaudoti miego stadijų atpažinimui, pritaikant mašininio mokymo algoritmus – atraminių vektorių mašinos, logistinės regresijos, k-artimiausių kaimynų, naivųjį Bajeso, atsitiktinių miškų ir dirbtinio neuroninio tinklo metodus. Mašininio mokymosi algoritmų klasifikavimo tikslumai palyginti, nustatytos aperiodinio komponento panaudojimo, kuriant automatizuotus klasifikatorius, galimybės bei apribojimai.The process of classifying sleep stages is a complex and time-consuming procedure, therefore automatic methods are needed to speed this process up. The aim of this thesis is to examine the applicability of the spectral slope coefficients of the aperiodic EEG component in the development of automated and semi-automated sleep stage classifiers using machine learning algorithms. In this thesis, literature about the detection of sleep stages was reviewed. The following methods to calculate the spectral slopes of the aperiodic EEG signal component were applied – the Welch window, Gaussian distribution, and Lorentz function algorithms. Spectral slopes extracted from the EEG signals were used for the identification of sleep stages by applying the following machine learning algorithms: support vector machine, logistic regression, k-nearest neighbours, naive Bayesian, random forest, and artificial neural network. The classification accuracies of machine learning algorithms were compared, and the possibilities and limitations of utilizing the aperiodic component in the development of automated classifiers were identified.Gamtos mokslų fakultetasBiochemijos katedr
