The coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19) has affected society globally, causing an overload of health systems in terms of their continuous supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) to health professionals. In view of that, this study aims to carry out a literature review of PPE 3D printing project initiatives developed by the open hardware philosophy, in order to carry out an analysis and comparison regarding the aspects of device type, printing type, choice material, production site, and dissemination platforms. In the research, the snowballing and Boolean methods were used, where 24 project initiatives were selected and organized in a table with the respective observation parameters.
