The aim of this paper is to determine to what extent French and Spanish deverbal nouns inherit their aspectual value from the verbs they derive from. Leaving aside result nominalizations (those referring to concrete objects), the aspectual features of deverbal nouns are often faithfully inherited (e.g. those related to accomplishment and achievement verbs), yet this is not always the case. In this respect, special attention is devoted to a subclass of nominals related to processive verbs, such as discussion or demonstration, which denote bounded actions unlike their base verbs.
