Strengths and weakness in the real estate market have a significant impact on the United States society. The real estate bubble that peaked in 2006 and the 2007 mortgage crisis greatly impacted the economy. This thesis discusses the characteristics of the real estate bubble and the events leading up to it. In the midst of the bubble, mortgage fraud greatly increased. Also discussed in the paper are different types of mortgage fraud, the impact of mortgage fraud, the impact of the fraud on the mortgage crisis, and changes to combat fraud, which include the Dodd Frank Act.
