Connecting Creativity to the Curriculum

Music is a natural connection for individuals, beginning at birth, and positively affecting brain functioning and student achievement in all academic areas. The integration of music in the curriculum is a meaningful connection for elementary students. Music, which transcends any language barrier, can become a meaningful part of the elementary curriculum through a two-way transfer of information; children learn music through subject areas, while subject areas arc learned through music. Actively engaging students in a music-integrated curriculum allows students\u27 brains to develop more completely and to improve in academic areas. Educators are able to incorporate music through a number of ways, including but not limited to, listening to music, composing music, critiquing music, and using background music to positively affect their students socially and academically
