The Second World War has been extensively studied by both Western and Eastern scholars alike. But what is less known from the Western perspective is the expulsion of around fourteen million Germans from Poland alone after the conclusion of the war. This was not by happenstance, but rather the result of historical ideologies framed by nationalists within Poland and legitimated by the newly created United Nations. The Western Allies after both the First and Second World Wars were primarily concerned with creating conditions that would placate simmering nationalist tensions in Europe.
